Several events are planned in the South Bay to observe and learn about the Islamic holidays of Ramadan and Eid ul-Fitr.

As Ramadan begins, South Bay Islamic community leaders are encouraging Muslims and non-Muslims alike to explore the significance of the holiday through events held during the month.

They include open houses of mosques and community centers, charitable events for the homeless, and celebrations for the fast-breaking holiday of Eid ul-Fitr.

On August 20, non-Muslims are invited to join the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Baitul Baseer Mosque in Milpitas, in a meal after sunset to break the daily fast.

According to Imam Mubasher Ahmad, guests start coming in at 6:30 p.m. On the schedule is a small formal program with speakers, an evening prayer and participants getting together at the dinner table.

(Please RSVPs with the editor if you would like to join.)
