A policy debate on the rise of extremism internationally and its impact on European security and cohesion is scheduled for September 20, 2011 at 7:00 PM.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of the UK, who is promoting the event say that violence is continuously on the rise "despite the millions of dollars spent on counter-extremism programmes."
"The ideology that has spawned violent extremism and reactive violent extremism," says Ahmadiyya Mulsim Community, "has its roots in adistorted interpretation of religion – be it Islam, Christianity or any other faith."
The debate is hosted by Dr Charles Tannock MEP, in partnership with UK All Party Parliamentary Group for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.
The presenters include Dr. Charles Tannock (MEP), Member of Human Rights Committee, Foreign Affairs Committee and Vice-President of the EP delegation to NATO Parliamentary Assembly; Dr. John Bew, Co-Director, International Centre for the Study of Radicalization; Shehrbano Taseer, Journalist and daughter of the late Salman Taseer the Governor of Punjab (Pakistan) who was assassinated by religious extremists; and Sifia Lemmetyinen, EU Liaison Officer for Christian Solidarity Worldwide.
The debate will be held in room PHS 3C50 at The European Parliament in Brussels.
