Ghana: Muslims condemn political intolerance

Imam Acquah said the mission donated bags of rice, sugar and bread to patients at the Agona Swedru Ahmadiyya Hospital as part of activities marking the end of their fast.

Agona Swedru (C/R), Sept 2, GNA – Muslim leaders in the Agona and Gomoa Districts of the Central Region have expressed concern about the growing political intolerance in the current democratic dispensation.

They said the situation needed an urgent attention and should be handled carefully in order to ensure absolute peace and stability during the 2012 general election.

They said these at separate functions to mark the annual Eid-Ul Fitr celebrations at Agona Swedru, Gomoa Mangoase, Gomoa Afransi and Mankrong-Junction.

Chief Imam of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in charge of the Agona Swedru District, Ibrahim Acquah, appealed to the supporters of the two main political parties, New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC), to exercise restraint as the nation prepares for the 2012 elections.


He urged Christians and Muslims to intensify their prayers as the nation was preparing for elections.

Imam Acquah said the mission donated bags of rice, sugar and bread to patients at the Agona Swedru Ahmadiyya Hospital as part of activities marking the end of their fast.

Alhaji Abdul Karim Musah, Sarduana of Muslims in the Central Region, said Islam is a peaceful religion and that should reflect in the lives of its members.

He called on the political leaders to avoid maligning and insulting their opponents and urged them to conduct a clean campaign in the 2012 elections.

Ustaz Ishmeal Obeng, President of Gomoa District Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, said the mission used the day to present relief items to the Gomoa Osamkrom inmates as part of their social responsibility to mark the Eid-Ul Fitr celebration.
