The much sought after restructuring of the Calabar Mosque has commenced.
The reconstruction started on the 20th, June, 2011, when a hole for the erecting of a pillar to support the decking of the new mosque, was dug.
The previous mosque is a non-storey building with partitions of bricks for the female and male section, and another partition in the male section, these partitions makes the mosque very small. The new reconstruction will make the previous small mosque into a bigger one.
It will be recalled that the Ahmadiyya Jama’at Mosque is considered as the state mosque by the Cross River State Government, therefore the small size of the mosque is very obvious during Fridays, when observing Juma’at service, during Ramadan for the observing of Tarahwe and for Itikhaf and during Government functions.
These partitions have now been removed, in order to make the male section to be spacious enough to occupy more worshippers. A storey has now been built along with ablution area and toilet to serve the females. The work has gone a long way, the remaining phase is the construction of the beam to support the roof that is yet to be constructed with the decking of the front part to enable the raising of the minaret and the creating of the dome.
