The Baitul Baseer Mosque promotes blood drives during the month of September as part of a national movement to save lives after 9/11.

Members of the Baitul Baseer Mosque in Milpitas hope to save lives by collecting blood donations in honor of the individuals who perished during the World Trade Center attack.

A pint of blood can save up to three lives, according to the American Red Cross. So approximately 10,000 pints are needed, said Idrees Munir, a member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.

"The idea is to save 30,000 lives to replace the 3,000 that were killed in the 9-11 attack," he said.

But they don't expect to collect 10,000 pints nationally in one day. More than 200 locations are available during the month off September across the country.

Any member of the public can donate as part of Muslims for Life. Red Cross locations will be open in Newark, downtown San Jose and Oakland. Just search under sponsor code CODERED during online registration or click here.

Credit will be given to the Baitul Baseer Mosque, part of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, as part of their goal to collect 10,000 pints.

Ahmadiyya has strongly condemned the 9/11 attacks, said Naseem Mahdi, national vice president and missionary in-charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community (see video).

"We have been very vocal on this issue that Islam does not condone any type of terrorism," he said. "On the tenth anniversary, we want to do more than just condemning it, but to physically show our solidarity and respect to the victims of 9/11."
