Bangladesh: 100th Year Celebration of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at

Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is the only Islamic organization to believe that the long-awaited Messiah has come in the person of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (1835-1908) of Qadian. Ahmad claimed to be the metaphorical second coming of Jesus of Nazareth and the divine guide, whose advent was foretold by the Holly founder of Islam, Prophet Muhammad.

The members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Bangladesh will celebrate the 100th year of their community’s establishment in Bengal in 2013.

The community through its national spokesperson, Ahmad Tabshir Choudhury, announced today that various programs have been chalked out to celebrate the centenary.

"All are requested to pray for Bangladesh Jama'at [community] and prepare themselve to attend the 100th Year Celebration Jalsa in early 2013," the anouncement read.

According to the information released, His Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the head of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has reviewed the programs and issued approval to go forward with its arrangements.

The Ahmadi Muslims in the region have a very rich history of spituality and service to the communities throughout undivided Bengal (present Bangladesh and Bengal of present Indian part.)

The well known Bengali personalities, Ahmad Kabir Noor Muhammad of Anwara of Chittagong district; and Raisuddin Khan and his wife of Nager Gaon of Kishoreganj district under greater Mymensingh, first joined Islam Ahmadiyya - in around 1905 - during the lifetime of Hazdhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, the founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.

Another scholarly saint, Maolana Syed Abdul Wahed, also known as Bara Maolana sahib of Brahmanbaria was in communication also with Hadhrat Ahmad through letters, it is recorded in Baraheen-e-Ahmadiyya, a voluminous scholarly work authored by Hazrat Ahmad.

Mr. Choudhury says Maolana  Wahed accepted Ahmadiyyat by personally appearing in Qadian in 1912 before the Khalifa of Islam, Moulvi Noorud Din, the first successor to Hazrat Ahmad who had passed away in 1908.

“After that," says Mr. Choudhury, "the conversions to the Ahmadiyya community took place at mass scale in Brahmanbaria and its surrounding areas.”

As more prominent personalities accepted Ahmadiyyat, a formal Ahmadiyya community was established in early 1913, according to Mr. Choudhury.

Maolana Syed Abdul Wahed, according to the community records, was then appointed as the first Ameer (chief executive) of the Ahmadiyya community of undivided Bengal.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is a dynamic, fast growing international revival movement within Islam. Founded in 1889, it is formally organized in 200 countries with membership exceeding 150 million according to unofficial estimates.
