Norway: 4,500 capacity Ahmadiyya Muslim mosque opens in Oslo

4,500 capacity mosque opens in Oslo

Scandinavia’s largest mosque - the Baitul Nasr mosque - opened on Friday in Oslo with an inaugural sermon by the Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, and a reception afterwards attended by upwards of 120 guests.

The cavernous structure can hold 4,500 worshippers and has been designed deliberately as ‘a national landmark and a symbol of peace’.

Grete Faremo, Norway’s Defence Minister, was in attendance for the grand opening and commented: “The new Norway also has a central role for religion. So we must open all our doors and invite all others as we are seeing here today. This is not my place of worship but irrespective of this I still feel real warmth here.”


The immense religious building has been funded entirely through contributions from the local community, with Zartasht Munir Khan, President of the Ahmadiyya community admitting that certain donors had sold possessions - in some cases a house or car - to raise money for the mosque.
