Bahawalpur: Abdul Moeed, a student at Bahawalpur University did not bargain for the treatment meted out to him when he first enrolled in computer engineering classes.

Moeed has been subjected to constant bullying and was beaten up recently in the university because of his faith, Ahmadiyya Times has learned.

Abdul Moeed belongs to the minority Ahmadiyya community.

According to the information made available, Anjuman Talabah Islam (ATI), an extremist Islamist students’ organization has been very active at the Bahawalpur University campus.

The rogue group recently appointed an hooligan organizer in Moeed’s class who contacted Moeed and asked him for time to sit down and talk with him.

Moeed asked him the purpose of the meeting  and the organizer replied that it was about his proselytizing in the hostel.

The meeting did not materialize, it was reported, however a few days later Moeed was cornered by two students from the radical group who abused him and the encounter resulted in a scuffle in which Moeed was severely beaten by the fanatic students.

The beating resulted in Moeed’s right shoulder being dislocated. He was taken to the hospital where after x-ray exams he received medical treatment.

According to the latest reports he was recovering from the trauma and receiving treatment for the injuries suffered during the beating.

Moeed missed his exam schedule due to the incident and the injuries suffered, it was reported.

His recovery is satisfactory, the family says, but his return to the University is uncertain.

The Persecution of Ahmadis is the religious persecution as a consequence of professing their faith, says Wikipedia, the popular online encyclopedia. "They have been subject to various forms of persecution and discrimination since the movement's inception in 1889."
