India: Ahmadiyya mosques threatened in Hyderabad by Wakf Board chairman

“Many Muslim scholars have been pressurizing the Govt. to confiscate the Mosques and other properties possessed by Ahmediyas. Taking the cognizance of these representations, the Chairman of Wakf board [Biabani ] had directed the … State Wakf Board to issue instructions to District Inspector Auditors of Wakf…”

There is trouble brewing for Ahmadiyya mosques in Hyderabad, India, Ahmadiyya Times has learned.

According to the reports and newspaper accounts from Hyderabad, certain extremist elements among the anti-Ahmadi Muslims have been attempting to seize Ahmadiyya Muslim mosques and the efforts are being supported by the chairman of the Andhra Pradesh State Wakf Board, Syed Ghulam Afzal Biabani.

The Wakf Board maintains oversight and provides care for certain Muslim religious properties - mosques and shrines - which are not directly owned by any other association or organization.

The Wakf Board, in the past, has been accused of asserting mafia-like control over installations that do not belong to it, it has been alleged.

A source familiar with the situation in Hyderabad, who did not want to be named, said a newspaper, The Siasat Daily, “caries anti-Ahmadiyya articles and [and with its help] non-Ahmadi's are trying to confiscate Ahmadi Masajid [mosques].”

“The Government is doing nothing and there is lot of chaos in Hyderabad,” the source added. “Biabani is trying to create hysteria by alleging his life is being threatened by Ahmadis.”

Under the guise of panic, says the source, Biabani wants to create environment suitable for attacking and taking over of Ahmadis mosques and other properties.

The Siasat Daily, allegedly the anti-Ahmadiyya news website, has confessed that a movement has been long under way to “confiscate” mosques in use by the Ahmadī Muslims, because, according to Siasat, Ahmadis “have been declared non-Muslims by Muslim Ulema throughout the World.”

“Many Muslim scholars have been pressurizing the Govt. to confiscate the Mosques and other properties possessed by Ahmediyas,” the news website wrote.  “Taking the cognizance of these representations, the Chairman of Wakf board [Biabani ] had directed the … State Wakf Board to issue instructions to District Inspector Auditors of Wakf…”

Siasat, in their report, went on to elaborate the steps Wakf Board is taking towards confiscation of the Ahmadiyya Mosques.

Siasat reported that District Inspector Auditors of Wakf are to "identify the properties held by Ahmediyas" within two days and “an important decision is likely to be taken in the meeting of the Wakf Board.”

According to the Ahmadiyya Times source, the Ahmadiyya Community in Hyderabad has all the original documentation of the properties and they are fighting off the seizer attempts in the court of law.

The Muslim politicians are working in cahoots with the newspapers, says Ahmadiyya Times source, “Because all these representatives need Muslim vote, the newspapers hold assemblymen and parliamentarians as hostages.”
