Working in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support, 34 volunteers from the UK Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) will spend five days hiking across the French Alps this June, the Association has announced.
The Association’s purpose is to raise awareness and thousands of pounds for Macmillan.
Macmillan provides essential practical, medical, and financial support for one in every three people who suffer from cancer during their lives.
The participants will both camp and cook their own food throughout the hike.
According to the event coordinator, Dr. Aziz Ahmad Hafiz, the participants collectively intend to raise in excess of £20,000 for Macmillan.
The annual hike is one of the many events organized by AMYA as part of their larger Charity Challenge 2012 Campaign, endorsed by the Mayor of London.
The Charity Challenge 2012 Campaign seeks to raise the best part of half a million pounds in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee for several very worthy causes and charities.
“I would greatly appreciate it if you support the event and Macmillan by sponsoring the team,” Dr. Hafiz said in an email. “You can also support the event by spreading the word which is in itself an important donation.”
”We have been working with Macmillan for several years now, having already had the opportunity to raise thousands of pounds for their fantastic cause through a number of great fundraising events,” Dr. Hafiz adds.
Adam Walker, national spokesperson for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association of the UK, is also devoting extra time and effort to get the word out in support of the causes being served under the banner of Charity Challenge 2012 Campaign.
“It is an excellent event which is raising much needed money for a really excellent and worthwhile charity, says Adam Walker. “Spreading the word would in itself be a great act of charity.”
