"I do not like, that Islam is always equated with oppression of women,. I want to make clear that it is un-Islamic to keep ones wife or daughter from receiving education. Outsiders should know that.”

Berlin - Imam Abdul Basit Tariq opened the first mosque in 2008 in the eastern part of Berlin against some opposition.
Today, four years later, the small Ahmadiyya Muslim community in Heinersdorf again caused some excitement.
The Imam paid some 7,000 Euros to hang 240 posters with three Quranic verses in Berlin’s S-Bahn train system. The posters primarily conveyed Islamic sayings including the messages of the Prophet Muhammad – for example, about the treatment of women in Islam that reads, "the best among you is the one who best treated his wife."
Why is the Imam introducing Islam?
The Imam wants to combat prejudice and forced marriages; and says hate speech is not accepted as part of the faith.

The posters are already hung in Munich, Hamburg and Frankfurt.
"They generated a lot of conversation.” said the Imam.
Berlin's integration officer Günter Piening cautiously responded about the posters>
"It is not new that communities promote religious messages," Piening said. "Perhaps it's a good process of normalization, if there are now Islamic posters."
The Catholic Bishop Matthias Heinrich was more accepting of the effort.
"I like it - to represent your belief and to educate outsiders," Bishop Heinrich said.
Bihop said it would be wrong if Islam is represented by the radical side.
"I believe and hope that this action is understood in this spirit," Bishop added.
