Members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association of Canada will be knocking on Abbotsford doors in an effort to promote peace and dispel myths about Islam this Sunday.
Rizwan Rabban, AMYA executive director, said a dozen Muslim youth from Delta and Vancouver are volunteering to canvas neighborhoods, chat with residents and hand out literature to promote harmony between people and different faiths, and to debunk the notion that Islam is synonymous with terrorism. The day before their trip, the group will fast from sunrise to sunset and then wake at 3: 45 a.m. Sunday to conduct a prayer for Abbotsford, said Rabbani.
The Abbotsford initiative is part of a larger AMYA campaign launched May 11 to visit 40 communities across Canada within 40 days.
The purpose of the campaign is not intended to convert people to Islam but promote understanding, said Rabban.
