As we scramble to find the motive behind the horrific attack on the Sikh temple in Wisconsin, it’s imperative to look beyond typecasting the trigger-happy shooter. Anyone who shoots innocent victims immersed in meditation and prayers is driven by the sole motive of hate.

Whether the hate monger is labeled “white supremacist,” “Islamist” or one who “snapped,” he remains guilty of the same crime — killing innocent souls.

Hate crimes are fueled by ignorance and a lack of tolerance. Most Americans embrace pluralistic ideals. This shooting demonstrates the urgency to further this quest.
