I'll develop Ekumfi in honour of late Prez Mills - Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama, has assured the people of Ekumfi in the Central Region of his commitment to develop the area in honour of the late President, John Evans Atta Mills, a son of the area.

He said pipelines would be laid throughout Ekumfi for the supply of water under an ongoing 33-million-euro water project in the Central Region.

Besides, he said, the government would connect several communities in Ekumfi to the national grid to support their domestic and commercial activities.

President Mahama was speaking at the Akwambo Festival of the chiefs and people of Ekumfi Ekrawfo last Saturday.

President Mahama said school facilities, including classrooms and dormitories, would be provided to facilitate teaching and learning in the area.

He urged the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, Ghana, to build a campus of its proposed university at Mankessim, since the water problem which compelled the mission to relocate the university project from Mankessim would be solved soon.

"Soon the shortage of water will be a thing of the past in Ekumfi," he stressed.

The President said President Mills was a distinguished son of Ekumfi who rose to become the President of Ghana after holding several key positions in the country.

He promised to complete all the projects started by the late President in Ekumfi as a tribute to him.

President Mahama commended the chiefs and people of the Central Region for maintaining peace in the area.

He asked all Ghanaians not to engage in acts that would disturb the prevailing peace in the country, since without peace the country could not develop.

On the forthcoming elections; President Mahama reiterated his commitment to ensure free, fair and transparent elections.

He said no blood would be spilled during the election, and that all eligible voters would vote in an atmosphere of peace and security.
