Two Ahmadis are the latest victims of the recent waive of target killings of Ahmadis in Baldia Town, Karachi.

Rabwah: On 23 October within the time span of 10 minutes two Ahmadis were shot dead in Baldia town area of Karachi. The first victim was 70-year-old shopkeeper Basheer Ahmad who was fired at point blank range that took his life. The next victim was a 40-year-old Ahmadi Homeopathic doctor Raja Abdul Hameed, who was at his clinic around the corner from the first attack where unknown assailants shot him that took his life.

On Sunday 21 October Saad Farooq was buried, who was also shot dead on 19 October by unknown assailants in a brazen attack right after Friday prayers in Baldia Town area. The attack left Saad’s father Farooq Ahmad Kahloon, father in law Nusrat Chaudhary and brother fighting for their lives. Saad just got married five days before his murder.

It is important to note that the area these deaths are taking place is filled with hate material and wall chalking, that openly call for the death of Ahmadis. The deaths are part of a planned and well-orchestrated campaign to cleanse the area of Ahmadis. The spokesperson of Jama’at Ahmadiyya Pakistan Saleem ud Din said, “it is not ordinary drive by shootings or target killing that has become part and parcel of Karachi life. It is executed by militants who have specifics motives of killing Ahmadis in Karachi.”

Saleem ud Din further added “we have repeatedly expressed concerns to law enforcement authorities about the presence of security risks and threats, we regularly communicate all the information and threats to Ahmadis in the area to the authorities. Yet the authorities have decided to turn a blind eye. It is evident from lack of action against the wall chalking, or spread of hate material or even to stop the conferences and rallies where Ahmadis are openly declared liable to death (wajib al qatl).”

Calling this an Ahmadiyya specific killing campaign Mr. Saleem ud Din said, “These deaths are not just routine murders associated with Karachi. The facts that hate material are openly distributed and conferences are allowed to take place that instigate for murder of Ahmadis, how can we compare it with the routine deaths in Karachi? Ahmadis regularly receive death threats openly through conferences and hate material or personally, the result is clear that we have buried 9 Ahmadis from only Karachi this year, who were all murdered in similar fashion.”

Mr. Saleem ud Din urged the government and law enforcement agencies to investigate these murders and make a serious attempt to repeal discriminatory laws and curtail spread of hate material if they are serious to stop this vicious cycle of death.
