Taliban: 'worst type of hypocrites'

The empowerment and education of women have always been held in the highest regard by Islam, so much so that the Prophet Muhammad stated, "Seeking knowledge is obligatory on every Muslim man and Muslim woman."

Regarding "Pakistanis show support for girl shot by Taliban" (Page A-11, Oct. 11) and "A tiny hero" (Editorials, Oct. 11):

As an American, a Muslim and a woman, I strongly condemn the Taliban's heinous attack on Malala Yousafzai. At only 14 years old, Malala has exemplified the very teachings of Islam; the Taliban has showed only cowardice and barbarity.

The empowerment and education of women have always been held in the highest regard by Islam, so much so that the Prophet Muhammad stated, "Seeking knowledge is obligatory on every Muslim man and Muslim woman."

By attacking and attempting to assassinate Malala and her dreams for women's education, the Taliban members have clearly demonstrated that they are not true followers of Islam, but rather, the worst type of hypocrites.
