Guatemala: Ahmadi Muslims hold 23rd annual convention

The Ahmadi Muslims in Guatemala held their 23rd annual convention on November 29th, 2012.

Affectionately known as Jalsa Salana, the three-day event began after the Friday prayers that were lead by Abdul Sattar Khan, National President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Guatemala.

According to reports filed from Guatemala, the attendees included members of the Ahmadiyya community of Guatemala, Ahmadis from Panama, the United States; and the chief-guest, Maulana Mubarak Nazir, Vice President and Missionary in charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Canada, who attended the convention as an official representative of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim leader, His Holiness, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad.

Among the participants were intellectuals, professors, doctors, lawyers, and other professionals making up approximately 120 people, it was reported.


The convention formally opened with a flag hoisting ceremony of the Ahmadiyya and the Guatemalan flags that were raised by Maulana Mubarak Nazir and Abdul Sattar Khan respectively, the report stated.

The proceedings began with the recitation of the Holy Qur'ān and His Holiness, Hadhrat Ahmad’s representative,  Maulana Mubarak Nazir delivered the inaugural address.

The final day was concluded by a series of key speeches by Imam Abdul Sattar Khan, Mr. David Gonzales, General Secretary of the Ahmadiyya community in Guatemala, and the keynote speaker Maulana Nazir.

Maulana Mubarak Nazir, Abdul Sattar Khan, and David Gonzalez met with the ex-president and current Mayor of Guatemala City, Mr. Alvaro Arzu and presented publications and books.

Mr. Alvaro Arzu received a brief introduction of the community and the different development projects and humanitarian assistance being carried out through Humanity First, an international charitable organization.

The delegation also met with the Mayor of Antigua, Guatemala.
