LAHORE - The Model Town police is yet to make a headway into the desecration of an Ahmadi graveyard and armed attack on a female Swedish Christian missionary.

Model Town Superintendent of Police Malik Awais told Pakistan Today they had registered an FIR [First Information Report] into the desecration of Ahmadi graves in Model Town’s Q Block but no arrests have been made so far.

“An FIR No. 1096/12 has been registered on charges of trespassing on burial places, mischief and criminal intimidation and trespassing for assaul,” said the police official, adding that no arrests have been made so far but the police is making efforts to trace the perpetrators.

Regarding the attack on 70-year-old Swedish Christian, Sister Birgitta Almby, SP Awais said that the police had interrogated Almby’s cook Mukhtar for some hours and later released him. “We are investigating the attack from all angles and will hopefully be able to arrest the attackers soon,” he said.

Talking to Pakistan Today, FGA Bible School Principal Liaqat Qaiser said that the attack on Almby was a clear case of extremism. “The attackers did not take anything from her person or the car. Almby’s cook Mukhtar told us that a few days ago, some unidentified men had beaten him up for no reason when he was returning home. This is a very strange incident and we are assuming it might be linked with the attack on Almby,” he said.

On Almby’s condition, Qaiser said that she was still on ventilator although doctors say that her condition has improved since Monday. “The entire Christian community is praying for Almby as she was loved and admired by everyone for her services to the Pakistani Christian community,” he said.
