West Java incumbent Governor Ahmad Heryawan on Tuesday said that the allegations of corruption reported to the country’s antigraft body against him were not true, adding that such claims were merely part of an effort to cause him to lose the province’s gubernatorial race.

“The issue was not convincing — it was related to election,” Ahmad, popularly known as Aher, said in Bogor. “I was also rumored to have had an unregistered marriage.”

Beritasatu.com reported that Bank Jabar disbursed Rp 38 billion worth of fictitious credit to Koperasi Bina Usaha, which is owned by Alpindo Mitra Baja, at the end of last year. Aher was allegedly involved expending the false funds.

It was found later that there were irregularities related to the credit, as Koperasi Bina Usaha did not meet the requirements to receive the funds and the bank did not validate the data.

Aher claimed that the state did not suffer any losses in the case and that Bank Indonesia, the country’s central bank, can monitor the disbursement.

“If there were irregularities, it’s none of my business, it’s the bank’s problem,” he said. “How is it related to me?”

Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) spokesman Johan Budi said that the body had received a report related to the case, though he refused to mention the person or group that reported it.

Aher said that he would not be bothered with the KPK report, insisting that it was not a fact.

“KPK people are not stupid,” Aher said. “A rubbish report will not be followed up.”
