The Annual Convention (Jalsa Salana) of the Sri Lanka Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at was held on last Sunday the 12th May 2013 at Ahmadiyya Jubilee Hall, Periyamulla,  Negombo.

The Markaz Representative Mr. Khalid Mahmoodul Hassan Bhatti was the Chief Guest.

The day-long program started with pre-dawn prayers and the main event started at 9.00 a.m. with flag-hoisting followed by silent prayers.

In his inaugural address, the National President of Sri Lanka Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at A.H. Nasir Ahmad said:
"The Founder of the Ahmadiyya Community Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad inaugurated this Convention (Jalsa Salana) in 1891 and is being continued in the Jama’at. Ahmadiyya Community is holding this Annual Convention in all the countries."

At the time of the first annual convention in Qadian in 1891, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad said:
Through these conventions, people should know the real knowledge about God and must establish brotherhood amongst the members of the Community. Promised Messiah, peace be on him, also prayed for those who participate in the convention, the National President added.

In his key-note address, The Markaz Representative Mr. Khalid Mahmoodul Hassan Bhatti said:
The purpose of the Convention about which the Founder of the Ahmadiyya Community said: “The primary purpose of this Convention is to enable every sincere individual to personally experience religious benefits; They may enhance their knowledge and –due to their being blessed and enabled by Allah, The Exalted- their perception [ of Allah ] may progress. Among its secondary benefits is that this congregational meeting together will promote mutual introduction among all brothers, and it will strengthen the fraternal ties within this Community.”………………… “It is essential for all those who can afford to undertake the journey, that they must come to attend this Convention which embodies many blessed objectives. They should disregard minor inconveniences in the cause of Allah and His prophet (peace be upon him.). Allah yields reward to the sincere persons at every step of their way, and no labour and hardship, undertaken in His way, ever goes to waste. I re-emphasize that you must not rank this convention in the same league as other, ordinary, human assemblies. This is a phenomenon that is based purely on the Divine Help, for propagation of Islam.”

The Markaz Representative Mr. Khalid Mahmoodul Hassan Bhatti further said: We must pray that Allah may fulfill all the prayers of Promised Messiah for the convention, on our behalf. We must pray for our Khalifa and recite Darud Prayers on Holy Prophet of Islam Muhammad (PBUH).

Ahmadi Scholars spoke on various topics in this convention such as ‘You are the best people raised for the good of the mankind’, ‘Mercy and Grace – the Principle Attributes of Allah & How to get Spiritual Satisfaction in Prayers’ (in Sinhala), Financial Sacrifice in Islam Ahmadiyyath’ and the Glory and Importance of invoking Darud Sareef (Salawat) for acceptance of prayers.

Ahmadi Muslims throughout the country attended this Convention.
