UK: Ahmadi Muslim group praised for charity support

Muslims from around South Yorkshire were given a reception by Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Coun John Campbell – to thank them for their charity fundraising.

The mayor welcomed members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association to Sheffield Town Hall.

Coun Campbell was told the association plans to raise £300,000 for good causes this year across the region, through activities ranging from bike rides to collections in supermarkets.

One of the activities included a 10km run and bike ride in Northamptonshire last weekend, attended by South Yorkshire members of the association will be travelling.

They are raising money for Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity.

Bilal Bhatti, a representative of the group, said: “We are delighted to be able to continue our support for some great UK causes. It gives us particular pleasure to be supporting a fantastic charity on our doorstep. Given recent events in Boston, this is also an opportunity for us to show that true Muslims are passionate about protecting life.’’

Ahmadiyya Muslim Association is still collecting sponsorship for the run and bike ride. Text ‘AMYA10’ and the amount to 70070.
