Memorial Day conjures up images of a fun-filled day. It is much anticipated for barbecues and lucrative shopping deals. Over the years - with ever increasing commercialization - the true spirit is overlooked and sometimes forgotten. Americans are war-weary but that should not undermine the sacrifices of those who paid the ultimate price. Thousands have lost their lives while serving the nation with honor and they must be recognized.
Ahmadiyya Muslim Community’s South Florida chapter is based out of Hallandale Beach. Every year, its members attend the Memorial Day ceremonies organized by the city. They are cognizant of their duty as patriotic American citizens and join the commemoration services to honor the fallen.
As American are skeptical about Muslims and question their ambivalence about true loyalties, members of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community are at the forefront in ensuring their fellow Americans that their allegiances rest with the United States. Those who act otherwise (Boston bombers, Time Square conspirator, Fort Hood shooter) are misguided and lured by political agendas guised under misconstrued religious rhetoric, which is utterly baseless.
Muslims are enjoined to pay heed to the Quran and the example of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) for guidance. If some Muslim Americans ignore the guidelines contained therein, they are failing their faith - by conspiring against their nation.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
“Love of one’s country of residence is part of faith.”
It is heartening to know that post 9/11, American are keen to learn about Islam. The learning curve is steep and Americans overwhelmingly comprehend that terrorists misinterpret Islam to further their hateful agendas.
Islam preaches loyalty and peace, which are the cornerstones of a Muslim's faith. Muslim Americans must cherish the freedoms and liberties that their nation offers and hold them dear. They need to remain mindful of their religious and national obligations that require them to serve the country to the utmost of their capabilities.
