Canada: Vancouver Mosque Inauguration | Letter

I say all this because many, like the CBC reporter who interviewed the Khalifa, always indignantly ask, "where is the so-called silent Muslim majority that condemns violence and extremism?" Well, here we are.

The new Ahmadiyya Muslim Mosque in Vancouver is a symbol of peace in Canada. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community strives for peace throughout the world and prides itself on this.

We have done so by demonstrating that despite our being persecuted by other fellow Muslims, we never retaliate against them violently, but we retaliate with prayers and patience.

We obey our Khalifa who is the leader of the Muslims, and the peaceful representative of Islam. His message is the message of tens of millions of Ahmadis spread around the globe, that the religion of Islam is a tolerant faith and that no Muslim who acts violently in its name is part of that teaching.

In Canada, Ahmadis are leaders in community service and interfaith dialogue. We are committed to bringing people of all faiths together in harmony. The new Vancouver mosque, inaugurated last week by the Khalifa, is a symbol of this pursuit and tangible proof that we mean what we say.

I say all this because many, like the CBC reporter who interviewed the Khalifa, always indignantly ask, "where is the so-called silent Muslim majority that condemns violence and extremism?" Well, here we are.
