The Khalifa of Islam issued a stern caution to the world leaders that the current global situation – centered around the conditions in Syria - ‘is fast moving towards a devastation.’
Hadhrat (His Holiness) Mirza Masroor Ahamd, the worldwide spiritual head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, dedicated his entire sermon this past Friday at Baitul Futuh Mosque in the UK, analyzing how the Syrian crisis could easily plunge the entire Arab world and beyond in to a catastrophe of great proportions.
Speaking to an audience of several thousand present at the largest mosque complex in Western Europe, and the tens of millions more via the community’s worldwide satellite television network, Muslim Television Ahmadiyya, Hadhrat Ahmad questioned the motives of the many players involved in the fast-evolving crisis.
If foreign powers join in, His Holiness said, “the terrible damage ensuing will not be limited to few countries in Asia, but will be worldwide.”
“Neither the countries in Asia, nor the world powers appreciate that this conflict could be a pre-cursor to a World War,” Hadhrat Ahmad said during his sermon underscoring the looming dangers.
Khalifa of Islam advised the Ahmadiyya Muslim community to pay a greater attention towards praying for mankind in general and the Muslim ummah in particular to be saved from any destruction.
Hadhrat Ahmad noted with disappointment that the current calamity that started in Syria two and a half years ago is brought about by Muslims themselves.
“The government forces are killing the citizens and the citizens are killing the government forces,” His Holiness said. “Alawites are killing Sunnis and Sunnis are killing Alawites, and all of them claim to recite the one Kalima (Muslim declaration of faith).”

His Holiness said some world powers as well as few governments of the region are backing the Syrian government while other governments, including most western world powers, are backing the rebel forces and the resulting tug-of-war is acquiring a dangerous form.
If it is anyone’s business, Hadhrat Ahmad asserted, it is the UN’s; because the country in question is included in its charter.
What is regrettable, His Holiness said, is that the Muslim factions involved in the conflict claim to follow “the teaching about which God has stated that it has been perfected.”
For the world powers, His Holiness said, 'it is mere obstinacy and an effort to prove their superiority'. “World peace is not established in these ways.”
“For world peace, justice has to be done - about which the beautiful teaching of Islam states: ‘… and let not a people’s enmity incite you to act otherwise than with justice…’. [5:9]"
His Holiness said if the UN was to work on this principle, justice could be established.
His Holiness noted the Russian president Vladimir Putin’s recent statement that it is not right to bypass the United Nations in such conflicts.
In an op-ed article published by the New York Times a few days ago, President Putin had cautioned that no one wants United Nations to have the fate of the League of Nations.
“Certainly, he is right,” His Holiness said.
In his previous statements, Hadhrat Ahmad had singled out as logical a proposal by Israel’s President Shimon Peres - to consider sending a United Nations peacekeeping force made up solely of Arab soldiers.
His Holiness had agreed with President Peres's reasoning that 'if Western nations or soldiers were to become directly involved it would be viewed as a Western invasion or as Western imperialism.'
The Ahmadiyya Khalifa has written to may leaders of the world, including the Pope, to intervene and use their influences in resolving ongoing world conflicts that, His Holiness believes, carry a potential of leading the world in to a serious worldwide nuclear war.
"It is my prayer that we all understand our responsibilities and play our role in establishing peace and love, and for the recognition of our Creator in the world," Hadhrat Ahmad had written to the former Pope Benedict XVI.
According to the recent reports, Pope Francis has also spoken out against attacking Syria.
In his letter to President Putin, who hosted the recent G20 Summit in St Petersburg, Russia, Pope Francis asked world leaders to “lay aside the futile pursuit of a military solution” to the Syrian civil war.
Popes Francis has insisted for a “peaceful solution through dialogue and negotiation”, it has been reported.
