"We should never take our neighbors’ goodwill for granted and if every one of us in a neighborhood were to take that first step, it will spread kindness in the community like a wild fire."

It was a busy Sunday on 10 Nov 2013, for the ladies wing of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community, baking and packing home-made cookies for neighbors in the vicinity of Taha Mosque which is situated in Onan Road.

Ladies of the community volunteered their time to go from door to door in the neighborhood of Onan Rd, Joo Chiat Rd and Carpmael Rd to present tote bags with the specially baked cookies and a thank you note in appreciation of their neighbors’ kind cooperation and tolerance in coping with the high human traffic and cars due to a recent major event held at the Taha Mosque.

Even though many expressed that the event did not inconvenience them in any way, they were still pleasantly surprised by the personal gesture of appreciation from the ladies and some even invited the ladies in for a cup of tea. That afternoon set me thinking – wouldn't it be good if we all spread kindness and cheer in our neighborhood with messages of love and appreciation every now and then? We should never take our neighbours’ goodwill for granted and if every one of us in a neighborhood were to take that first step, it will spread kindness in the community like a wild fire.

It was indeed a heart-warming Sunday which brought smiles and strengthened the bonds of neighborliness.
