U.S. book publisher Scholastic said that it will correct an error found in a best-selling children's book series that had excluded Israel in a map of the Middle East.

As you have probably heard, Thea Stilton and the Blue Scarab Hunt, a title in the Geronimo Stilton series, published by Scholastic, includes a map that inadvertently omits Israel. Scholastic is immediately stopping shipment on this title, revising the map, and going back to reprint. We regret the omission which was in the original version of the book published in Italy and was translated by our company for English language distribution. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.
The book was translated from the original Italian, published by Piemme. Scholastic, which is based in New York, began to produce English-language versions of the book series in 2012.
When asked whether Scholastic will pull existing books from shelves, Kyle Good, senior vice president of corporate communications, said they "have nothing more to say."
Commenters on the company blog questioned how such an omission could occur.
