A teenager from Southfields will be congratulated by Prime Minister David Cameron tomorrow for helping victims of the floods that struck the country earlier this year.

Zafar Ahmad, 16, will travel to 10 Downing Street for a reception hosted by the PM in recognition of the 'Flood Hero' award he received from ITV's Daybreak programme.

Zafar spent his February half term holiday helping flood relief efforts in Staines and Chertsey, alongside fellow volunteers from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA).

His kindness was recognised by Daybreak producers, who invited Zafar onto the show to collect his award live on air.

He also received a £5,000 cheque from Sir Richard Branson, to be donated to the charity of his choice.

Zafar said: "I don't consider what I did to be special, but simply fulfilment of my religious duty as a British Muslim to serve my country.

"I would like to thank ITV for highlighting the plight of those affected by the floods as well as Sir Richard Branson and Virgin Unite for offering such a kind donation, which I am donating in full to help the flood victims.

''I'm a bit nervous about attending the reception, but at the same time very excited to meet the Prime Minister."
