One of Crawley’s Muslim groups will be holding an open day and peace seminar to allow people to ask any questions they have about Islam.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Association will hold the event at their newly inaugurated Noor Mosque in Langley Drive on Sunday (June 1) as part the Ahmadiyya Muslim UK centenary celebrations.
Regional president, Ahsan Ahmedi, said: “After much negative news in recent months linked with war and terrorism, the Ahmadiyya Muslim community wishes to redress the balance by it’s continued efforts to promote peace and loyalty in Crawley and in Sussex.
“Being loyal to your faith, your country,and your principles is the best way to this”.
Event organiser, Imran Mahmood, said: “The event will be in two parts. Firstly an open day between 12-4 and see the beautiful Noor Mosque – the ‘Illuminating Mosque’.
“Members of our community will receive all visitors and answer any questions on Islam and peace. There will an exhibition, an Islamic display as well as light refreshments.
“Secondly an evening dinner reception at 5pm is where those invited will have an opportunity to listen to the Imam of London Mosque conveying the message of peace and how we can help our local communities by being loyal to our country through our faith.”
The Imam Attaul Mujeeb Rashed will be on hand to answer any questions guests may have about Islam.
Mr Ahmedi said the Imam was an expert on comparative religions and had given talks all over the world.
He added: “The Ahmadiyya Muslim Association completely denounces terrorism, committed by state, groups or individuals and is committed to promoting peace and justice.
“This program is continuation of that objective.”
The Noor Mosque was inaugurated on January 18 by Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, worldwide head and 5th Caliph of the Ahmadiyya community which numbers over 150 million in 200 countries.
It was the first Ahmadiyya Muslim Mosque in Sussex.
Local president, Abdul Gafoor said: “One of our main objectives is to share our values with the larger community.
“Our Mosque is open for all to attend and in particular we want our neighbours and the town to know that Islam is a peaceful religion and one that helps those in need.
“Our doors to the Mosque are open to everyone who wishes to promote peace.”
