I wonder whose faith they are following, those who commit hate crimes in the name of religion?
The Quran says, "The reward of goodness is nothing but goodness" (55:61). Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "He who does not thank people does not thank God."
Dr. Mehdi Ali Qamar, a 50-year-old U.S. citizen and cardiologist, was on a three-week-long humanitarian mission to Pakistan. He began his second day by paying tribute to deceased elders at a local graveyard right after the Morning Prayer.
His wife and 2-year-old son were also with him when some unknown gunmen shot at him, taking his life on the spot. Why? Simply because he was a member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.
The brutal gunmen snatched the life of the person whose heart was filled with the desire to serve humanity selflessly. He dedicated his time while being fully aware of the danger to his life in view of the current state of persecution of Ahmadi Muslims in Pakistan.
Instead of acknowledging this man for sacrificing his time to come and serve them, the cruel people paid him back by taking his life.
The response of Ahmadi Muslims to all hate crimes for the last 125 years has been with peace, education and prayers. We employ means of precaution at our disposal and seek support to advocate justice for the persecuted.
Our reliance is not on any person or group, but on God alone. As per advice of our spiritual leader, we will continue to pray with patience, strength, loyalty and steadfastness.
It is, however, the responsibility of the government of Pakistan to provide indiscriminate protection to all people regardless of ideological differences.
