When mosques, churches and other places of worship are bombed and burned, we see no effort to catch the culprits hiding among ourselves.

Pakistani streets and social media sites are jammed with people and their messages condemning Israel’s attack on the Gaza Strip. Don’t get me wrong; I am totally against Israeli’s brazen aggression against the helpless civilians who are forced to live with a bleak future in the world’s largest open prison.
However, my question to those of my Pakistani countrymen who are now blocking roads and filling websites with messages of condemnation is: Where are you when fanatics go on a killing spree to eliminate religious and sectarian minorities in Pakistan? You just keep counting the numbers of those killed as if they were goals scored in the World Cup. When mosques, churches and other places of worship are bombed and burned, we see no effort to catch the culprits hiding among ourselves. We see no protest about innocent people being targeted under the nation’s blasphemy law and family honor customs. Even rape victims are condemned as being the ones who incited the heinous act and are asked to bring witnesses as proof. We see no religious party in Pakistan openly rejecting Taliban, Al-Qaeda, Boko Haram, ISIS and Al-Shabab, and even if they do make a statement under public pressure, it is overloaded with “ifs” and “buts”. Therefore, first things first: Come clean about what’s happening to people within a few kilometers of your own residence in Pakistan rather than shouting hollow slogans for Gazans living thousands of kilometers away.
Remember charity begins at home; otherwise, it’s just a case of showing off.
