Sri Lanka: India alleges Pakistani High Commission in Colombo directs terrorism in India


India has alleged that a diplomat at the Pakistani High Commission in Colombo is managing Pakistani intelligence (ISI) activities in India from Sri Lanka and he had been involved in and was planning attacks in Chennai and other cities.

Aug 19, Colombo: Sri Lanka today has assured India that it will not allow anyone to use its soil to carry out subversive acts against its neighbor.

Meeting with the foreign journalists in Colombo Sri Lanka's External Affairs Minister Prof. G L Peiris said the Sri Lankan government will not allow room for terror elements to plan anti-India activities.

"We have constantly assured India that under no circumstances will Sri Lankan soil be used for any acts against India," Peiris has said at the Foreign Correspondents Association meeting held at the Temple Trees today under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Indian authorities recently uncovered an alleged plot by a Pakistan-based terror group to carry out suicide attacks on US and Israeli consulates in south India. The conspiracy was reportedly planned overseas including in Sri Lanka, Malaysia and the Maldives.

India has alleged that a diplomat at the Pakistani High Commission in Colombo is managing Pakistani intelligence (ISI) activities in India from Sri Lanka and he had been involved in and was planning attacks in Chennai and other cities. Pakistan has reportedly called the diplomat back.

Responding to the allegations Pakistan recently said the allegations is an attempt to "create a wedge" between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The Sri Lankan government, despite objections from the UNHCR, recently started deporting Pakistani asylum seekers back to Pakistan saying that the influx of asylum seekers, mostly Pakistanis has resulted in serious law and order, security, as well as health related issues for the authorities.
