On 21st and 25th of August 2014 more than 280 students and staff of Padua College Melbourne visited the Ahmadiyya mosque and community centre ‘Bait-ul-Salam’ (House of Peace) in Langwarrin. The students were given a brief presentation on history and teachings of Islam by Imam Janud of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Victoria.
Imam Janud explained six articles of Islamic faith and their implementation in a Muslim’s day to day life. He shed light on Islamic daily prayers, fasting, Eid celebrations, Islamic concept of charity and pilgrimage to Mecca. In the end he explained that Islam is a religion that teaches peace, tolerance and harmony and anyone who commits any barbaric act or any form of terrorism in the name of Islam has nothing to do with its true teachings.
Imam Janud said that each and every day of Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) life is evident that he championed religious freedom, women rights and worked tirelessly to establish peace and tolerance in the society but it is sad that in this day and age a small minority of extremists have high jacked his peaceful religion and now a vast majority of the world associates Islam with terrorism and extremism.

Various banners on the topic of peace, interfaith, harmony, science and cosmology were on display in ‘The Holy Quran Exhibition’.
Over the period of two days six groups visited the mosque and learn the basic knowledge of Islam and how Muslims worship in the mosque. The students were provided light refreshments at the end of the tours.
