MUSLIMS in Seaqaqa and surrounding areas in Macuata can now worship in a well-structured complex following the opening of a new mosque yesterday.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at mosque in Caloci was opened by the Acting Commissioner Northern Alipate Bolalevu in front of about 100 followers.

In opening the mosque, Mr Bolalevu said everyone in Fiji had the right to worship freely, something the government recognised.

"This is a milestone achievement for this community as I understand that you have sacrificed a lot to build the mosque.

"The community-funded project will bring relief to the faithful followers here because they will now worship freely."

Muslim regional missionary Northern Tariq Ahmad Rashid said their Muslim brothers throughout the country contributed towards the mosque.

"The project cost $120,000 and we are thankful for the tremendous contribution from our brothers nationwide," said Mr Rashid.
