The leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, His Holiness Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmed, will open Galway city’s first mosque at a special ceremony this month.
The Masjid Maryam (Mosque of Mary ), No 2, The Cottages, Old Monivea Road, Ballybrit, will be officially opened on Friday September 26
The mosque will be inaugurated and subsequently open to the public on September 26 by the Friday prayers and sermon delivered by Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmed at 1pm. The prayers will be broadcast live from Galway by Muslim Television International - Sky channel 787 and www.mta.tv/live/ The official opening ceremony takes place from 7.30pm to 9.30pm, followed by a banquet dinner. Entry to this evening event is by invitation only.
Masjid Maryam is named after the Virgin Mary, who is a revered figure in Islam and has a sura (chapter ) of The Qur’an dedicated to her and her life story
Dr Nauaman Iftikhar of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community said the mosque will be “a symbol of peace and love for the people of Galway and indeed for the whole of Ireland. The Mosque of Mary has been designed to show a timeless classical elegance, bringing together, traditional and contemporary style blending Muslim and Gaelic features
