Genocide survivors slam 'Nazi' Israel for Gaza atrocities

Over 300 Holocaust survivors and their families join forces to speak out about Gaza war tragedies, slamming Israel’s military strategies as ‘genocide’. In a statement posted as an advertisement in the New York Times, left-wing organisation International Jewish Anti-National Network (IJAN) calls for Israel to be shunned and the blockade in Gaza to be lifted.

The open letter, signed by 40 Holocaust survivors and 287 descendants, implies that Israel’s operations harkens the mass genocide of Jews; as well as homosexuals, ethnic minorities, and the mentally and physically disabled, in the horrific Holocaust under Adolph Hitler’s Nazi regime in 1940s Germany.

“As Jewish survivors and descendants of survivors and victims of the Nazi genocide we unequivocally condemn the massacre of Palestinians in Gaza and the ongoing occupation and colonization of historic Palestine”, says the document.

“In Israel, politicians and pundits have called openly for genocide of Palestinians and right-wing Israelis are adopting Neo-Nazi insignia.”

“We must raise our collective voices and use our collective power to bring about an end to all forms of racism, including the ongoing genocide of Palestinian people.”

The news comes after Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) Major General Giora Eiland called for a ‘starve or surrender’ policy in Gaza, aiming to cut off food, water and energy supplies to the Middle Eastern strip. The move has been blasted as a potential war crime and a form of genocide to kill off innocent civilians, but Eiland defended the proposition stating there are no such thing as ‘innocent civilians’ in Gaza and that Palestinians “are to blame for this situation just like Germany’s residents were to blame for electing Hitler as their leader and paid a heavy price for it”.

But survivors of Hitler’s devastating regime condemned Israel for its attacks on civilian targets such as UN Refugee camps, shopping areas and hospitals - in the conflict which has lead to the death of more than 2,100 Palestinians, including 500 children, according to figures from Palestinian health officials and the UN.

The open letter is also a response to an article written by Nobel Prize Laureate Elie Wiesel which accused the Palestinian Hamas group of being a ‘death cult’ that sacrifices children and uses civilians as human shields; and urges President Obama and the public to campaign against it.

“Moderate men and women of faith, whether that faith is in God or man, must shift their criticism from the Israeli soldiers – whose terrible choice is to fire and risk harming human shields, or hold their fire and risk the death of their loved ones – to the terrorists who have taken away all choice from the Palestinian children of Gaza”, Wiesel writes.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s spokesman Mark Regev has previously expressed that he believes this to be the case. In an interview on Channel 4 News after four young boys were killed by an Israeli shelling attack on a beach as they played football, Jon Snow presses the Israeli spokesman for answers to the massacres.

“The Israeli military does not target civilians, it does not target children”.

“The question has to be asked here of Hamas – why are you deliberating embedding your [weapons in the] civilian population, shooting your rockets trying to kill our civilians, using Gaza’s population as a human shield”.

Yet Holocaust survivors have blasted these claims, saying that Israel militants are targeting civilians and this is due to the ‘dehumanisation’ of Palestinians and brainwashing of Israeli citizens. There is evidence of that on Facebook which blog-based web magazine +927 Mag, comprised of writers in both Israeli and Palestinian territories, pointed out. The website showed Facebook comments, translated from Hebrew, which responded to the anti-‘Protective Edge’ statement in the New York Times – with users even wishing death upon the Holocaust survivors who spoke out.

“It’s a shame Hitler didn’t finish the job”, said a callous comment written by a user named Asher Solomon.

“Enough, they should die already. They survived the Holocaust only to do another Holocaust to Israel in global public opinion?” said user Vitali Guttman.

But this response from pro-Israeli advocates has not deterred the Jewish survivors from campaigner against the Operation Protective Edge horrors. Auschwitz survivor Hajo Meyer, who has stood fearlessly stood up against Zionism, has urged Palestinians to stay strong and not to give up. The former physicist, who passed away on the 23rd August aged 90, spoke out about the Israeli treatment of Palestinians in Gaza.

He said in his last interview with pro-Palestinian news site Electronic Intifada, “If we want to stay really human beings, we must get up and call the Zionists what they are: Nazi criminals. The brainwashing of the Jewish Israeli populations is going on for over sixty years. They cannot see a Palestinian as a human being.”

“My message for the Palestinians is that they should not give up their fight.  If you don’t fight, you lose your self-esteem and will not be respected by the Israelis.”

Meyer also urged Western countries to speak out and put a stop to the genocide and that simply doing nothing could eventually lead to Palestinians being destroyed. The plea is similar to Jon Snow’s heartfelt message broadcast on Channel 4 News.

“If we Western democratic societies don’t support the Palestinians in their fight, we must feel ashamed if the Palestinians are annihilated”, said Meyer.

“The US and the European Union must show their teeth”.

The signed open letter from Holocaust survivors also echoed this call.

“Genocide begins with the silence of the world”.
