THE Nottingham branch of an Islamic Association has condemned the violent killing of British hostage David Haines.

The 44-year-old aid worker and father of two was beheaded by extremists from separatist group Islamic State.

Mr Haines was kidnapped in March 2013 when working for a French aid agency.

Nottingham's branch of Islamic group Ahmadiyya Muslim Community UK says the murder was "evil".

National president Rafiq Hayat said: "The appalling murder of David Haines at the hands of a British follower of ISIS is a horrific act of evil.

"Islam advocates love, respect and peace and this abhorrent murder again exposes that ISIS has nothing to do with Islam or any religion. It is barbarity at its worst."

He added: "We stand united with people of the United Kingdom in unequivocally condemning this gruesome killing."
