My heart sank with the news of the terrorist attack Wednesday on the Charlie Hebdo office in Paris. Once again, extremists have used my religion, Islam, as an excuse to kill innocent people. As an Ahmadi Muslim woman, who believes in the Messiah, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian, India, I categorically reject this barbaric attack and want to reaffirm to my fellow Americans that Islam is against terrorism of any form.

This senseless act of killing innocent people runs counter to Islamic teachings of peace and justice. “We prescribed for the children of Israel that whosoever killed a person … it shall be as if he had killed all mankind ….” (Chapter 5 v. 33) This verse from the Holy Quran clearly shows that no one has the right to kill anyone. I offer my condolence to the families affected by this tragedy.
