Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Victoria held its ‘Annual Australia Day Dinner’ at ‘Bait-ul-Salam’ (House of Peace) mosque Langwarrin with the theme of ‘Australia, my homeland’

Ahmadiyya Muslim Association (AMA) Victoria held its annual Australia Day dinner to commemorate ‘The Australia Day’ at their mosque, Bait-ul-Salam (House of Peace), in Langwarrin, Victoria on Saturday the 31st of January 2015.

The dinner was attended by more than 300 guests including federal and state MPs, mayors, councillors, local government officials, interfaith leaders, Victoria Police officials, Australian Federal Police officials, council generals, university professors, university students, neighbours and local community members.

The formal proceedings began with a recitation from the Holy Quran and its translation in English followed by formal acknowledgement of the traditional owners of the land and the National Anthem that was presented by a group of Ahmadi Muslim kids.

Mr Javed Safdar Choudhary President Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Victoria presented the welcome address. A number of distinguished guest speakers addressed the audience that included Ms Sandra Mayer Mayor Frankston City, Cr Sean O’Reilly Mayor of the City of Greater Dandenong, Cr Mick Morland Mayor City of Casey, Commander Bruce Philip Giles (Australian Federal Police) Melbourne, Mr Luke Cornelius Assistant Commissioner Victoria Police, Ms Keiko Haneda Consulate General of Japan, Mr Richard Udovenya Honorary Consul Republic of Mozambique, Dr Ali Khan CEO of Ramahyuck District Aboriginal Corporation & President of Liberal Party Wattletree, Ms Sonia Kilkenny State Member for Carrum and Hon. Bruce Atkinson President of the Legislative Council and spoke very highly about the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Australia, its activities and wider community events.

Imam Wadood Janud of Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Victoria and the National President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Imam I. H. Kauser also addressed the audience.

Mayor of City of Frankston, Ms Sandra Mayer said:
“I was moved to hear the speeches…and all the wonderful things you do for the wider community…while some people try to use religion and backgrounds to divide others, your passion for both Australia and the Islamic faith shows that they can actually be a force that unites us.”

Bruce Atkinson, President of the Legislative Council of Victoria, said,
“I take this opportunity to congratulate the Ahmadiyya (Muslim) Association for all of the work that it does. It is such an extraordinary program that was outlined tonight in the presentation of some of the things that you are involved in and how you are building those links in the community.”

Imam I. H. Kauser National President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Australia said,
“The Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, taught that the love for one’s nation is a part of your faith. Thus, sincere patriotism is a requirement in Islam. To truly love God, Islam requires a person to love his nation. It is quite clear, therefore, that there can be no conflict of interest between a person’s love for God and love for his country. As love for one’s country has been made a part of Islam.”
Imam Wadood Janud of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Australia said,
“Let us not take this beautiful land, its people, and this nation for granted. It is for this very reason where I believe that Australia Day, where it is a day of celebration, of BBQ and other activities, more importantly it should be a day of reflection, and gratefulness.”
The presentations came to conclusion with the silent prayer that was followed by a delightful dinner. During and after the dinner some distinguish guests were requested to be interviewed. The proceedings of the dinner would be aired on community’s 24/7 satellite channel MTA International.
