VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A Muslim group is offering all Canadians a chance to learn more about the religion over dinner.
Families are opening their homes as a way to foster better understanding.
The “Meet a Muslim Family” campaign starts Sunday. You can be connected with a Muslim family, visit their home and get to know them and share a meal.
This is not the first year the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has done this, but Safwan Choudhry with the group says they’ve expanded it in light of recent events, including the murders of three Muslim students in the US.
“There have been radicals who have been arrested. There’s an ongoing debate happening in Parliament about a new bill, so really just Muslims holistically have been in the spotlight,” he explains.
Choudhry bets those who accept the offer will find there are more similarities than differences. “We get just as excited about our NHL games and our ski trips and our snowboarding trips. All those very Canadian things that I think really bond us together.”
