LAHORE: Religious and political leaders at an all parties conference (APC) Tuesday called upon the government to hold an Islamic summit in Islamabad for taking a common line of action by the Ummah against blasphemious incidents in the West.
The APC was organized by the Jamaat-i-Islami here against growing incidents of blasphemy against the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him).
The APC participants demanded that the blasphemy of Holy Prophet (PBUH) be declared an international crime like that of Christ (AS).
The conference was presided over by JI chief Sirajul Haq. Those attending the moot included Ameer Jamaat Dawah Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, chief of the JUI (S) chief Maulana Samiul Haq, former President Justice Muhammad Rafiq Tarar, Mufti Munibur Rahman, Maulana Syed Ataul Momin Bukhari, Qari Muhammad Hanif Jaulandhry, Federal Minister Saad Rafiq, PTI leader Mehmudur Rashid, former AJK Prime Minister Sardar Attiq Ahmed Khan, JUI(F)'s Maulana Amjad Khan, Pir Ejaz Hashmi, Christian leader J. Sirajul Haq, in his presidential address, said that the Muslim rulers should gather in Madina, the city of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and vow to protect the dignity of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) at every cost.
Maulana Samiul Haq and Hafiz Muhammad Saeed appreciated the JI's effort to unite the nation on a sensitive issue. They said that the matter could only be resolved through some concrete steps.
PML-N leader Saad Rafiq said that terrorism, extremism and violence in the world had increased due to the partiality of the UN and the biases of the West. He said that the issues of the Muslim world including Kashmir and Palestine had not been resolved for decades. The anti-Islam policies of the West were giving rise to violence among Muslims, he added. Saad Rafiq said the government was trying to unite the Muslim world on the blasphemy issue. He appreciated the statement of the Pope condemning blasphemy.
A declaration adopted at the moot stressed upon all Muslim states to make joint efforts against the trend of blasphemy of Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) and all other prophets.
The conference demanded that all Muslim states lodged a formal protest on official level with France and other European states which were patronizing such blasphemous publications.
The JI chief announced a steering committee under JI Secretary General Liaqat Baloch to organize the movement against blasphemy. Its members included among others, Hafiz Abdur Rahman Makki, Maulana Amjad Khan, Kh. Saad Rafiq, Maulana Ameer Hamza, Hafiz Raza Kazim, Maulana Allah Wasaya, Pir Mehfooz Mashhadi, and others.
