A Muslim association in Sheffield is to host a peace conference this weekend.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Sheffield is putting on the event on Saturday, February 21, at the Baitul Afiyat Mosque on Sussex Street from 2.30pm.
The aim of the conference is to talk about the life of Mohammad and the peaceful teachings of Islam and challenge the ‘major misconceptions’ associated with the religion.
Dr Nadeem Ahmad, president of the Sheffield chapter of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association, said that there has never been a greater need for finding a way to achieve global peace.
He said: “The world is in the danger of plunging into chaos due to an imminent clash of cultures, and people need to be accepting of one another to avoid conflicts.”
The event is open to members of the public of all faiths through invitation.
It will include speeches and presentations, as well as a question and answer session.
Refreshments and dinner will also be provided as part of the event.
The worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community held the first peace conference in the 1920s as a Religious Founders’ Day, to help relieve the growing tension among different faiths in the Indian sub-continent.
