A Muslim cleric Saturday condemned terrorism and murder during a gathering of religious leaders at a Wilkinsburg mosque.
Imam Adnan Ahmed of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community said terrorist acts violate the Islamic teachings.
“When you hear about Islam, you think about al-Qaida, ISIS...,” he said. “ISIS and al-Qaida do not represent Islam. Their actions are contrary to the teachings of Islam. We condemn the actions of these extremists in the strongest possible words.”

They preached a common theme: Whether it be Muhammad, Buddha or Jesus, God is universally pacifist.
Rabbi James A. Gibson of Temple Sinai in Squirrel Hill said he never accepts Saturday speaking engagements because they fall on the Jewish sabbath. He made an exception for the interfaith symposium.
“We live in a climate of such alienation and hate that I set aside my rule,” he said.
Ahmad Shareef, 55, of Penn Hills, a member of the Ahmadiyya community, said religious differences have to be respected.
“Especially in (Wilkinsburg),” the retired state trooper said. “Here, you have Nation of Islam, Catholics, Methodists... There's no hatred or anything like that.”
Ahmed said public beheadings and attacks on children in the name of Islam are wrong no matter what language is spoken.
“Their actions and statements are an insult and blasphemy to Muhammad,” he said. “Please don't judge an entire religion based on the actions of a few individuals.”
