Windsor residents are being encouraged to meet a Muslim family.

The two-week "Meet a Muslim Family" campaign is a Canada-wide initiative organized by the Ahmadiyya sect of Muslims.

It encourages Canadians to drop into the homes of Muslim families, coast to coast and get to know their neighbours.

"I think the onus is on everybody in Canada now to know, ok, I'm living among a society that's very multicultural and very multi-faith, and I need to educate myself, and I do the same," said Afran Ahmad, who is the father of a host family in Windsor, Ont., participating in the event.

Ken Lewenza Jr. brought his family to Ahmad's home for a visit.

Both families saw the visit as an opportunity to learn and break down barriers.

"One of the things we talked about is to not paint everyone with one brush," Lewenza said.

Maryam Ahmad and Racquel Lewenza saw the visit as a chance to clear up stereotypes.

"There's no bad religion. It's mostly just bad people who have bad intentions for the community and everything," said Maryam Ahmad.

"I said that earlier too, when I was talking with my father when we were on the drive here. There's just bad people and there's good people," Racquel Lewenza said.

The campaign runs for another week.
