Imams encouraged to cultivate the values of the Prophet Muhammad
The Ahmadiyya Muslim community of Mali organizes their 8th "Jalsa salana (Annual Convention)" on the 27, 28 and 29 March 2015 in Bamako, under the theme: "Muhammad -- A mercy for all mankind."
The opening ceremony of the convention was held Friday, March 27, 2015.
According to the president of the Community, Saqib Mahmood Nasir, the Convention aims to strengthen the relationship of members with God. It is a training environment to create social cohesion, unity and brotherhood among the members of the community.
Mr. Nasir said during the three days, participants will listen to the message of Allah through several programs. They will offer their day and night prayers together. He invited them to participate massively in the different prayers programs.
The speaker of the day, Moaz Oumar Coulibaly, informed the audience that this was the Prophet Muhammad who granted the woman's dignity. He also said that it was the Prophet Muhammad who abolished slavery.
Coulibaly explained that the theme "Muhammad -- A mercy for all mankind." is taken from Chapter 21, verse 108 of the the Holy Quran which states: "We have not sent you but as a mercy for all people."
Coulibaly cited that the Prophet Muhammad is a mercy to mankind for several reasons.
"He [The Prophet Muhammad] gave the woman her dignity"
"Before his prophethood, the woman in Arabia was reduced to the simple object status," Coulibaly explained.. "But the Prophet Muhammad through Quranic teachings succeeded in enhancing the status of women."
"The prophet said that the best of you men is one who treats his wife better."
Coulibaly lamented that bad practices have resurfaced with a new look among the Muslim community, especially in the ranks of those who are required to lead by example. He invited imams and other opinion leaders of the Muslim community to adopt the good practices in treatment of women that the Prophet Muhammad bequeathed.
The Prophet Muhammad and the abolition of slavery
Coulibaly said that the Prophet Muhammad has also developed and set into practice the abolition of slavery strategy.
According to Coulibaly, the slave, like a woman, also had no regard and had no hope of release from bondage. By cons, he says, the prophet Muhammad in his strategy to abolish slavery, made sure that every slave has a possibility of release.
For example, he said the slave liberation is a value that is linked with spiritual rewards. For the the Prophet Muhammad provides release of slave as expiation of certain offenses.
According to Moaz Oumar Coulibaly, it would be difficult to exhaust the examples of Mercy of Prophet Muhammad. For him, the most striking example is the pardon granted to his enemies in the decision of Mecca.
Coulibaly pointed out that when the prophet began his return to Mecca, his birthplace, where his sworn enemies had chased him out of and he had opted to flee the city, he told them that they were all forgiven and they not only can they stay in Mecca, but also continue in their disbelief of Islam, with only one condition that they too allow freedom of worship to others.
Oumar Moaz concluded by saying that it is unfortunate that individuals motivated by the lure of materialism, massacre Muslims and non-Muslims in the name of such a prophet.
"It's ignorant like them, who can believe such allegations."
