Ahmadiyya Muslim Community condemns sectarian attacks after unprovoked murder of Mr Nauman Najam.

Gunmen have murdered an Ahmadi Muslim because of his beliefs, in Pakistan on Saturday.

Mr Nauman Najam, 30, was working at his computer hardware store in the Malir area of Karachi when unknown assailants entered and opened fire. Najam was struck by five bullets and passed away en route to hospital, becoming the 144th Ahmadi Muslim fatality in unprovoked sectarian attacks in Pakistan since 2010.

A spokesperson for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Abid Khan said: “Mr Nauman Najam shaheed was a very decent and law-abiding citizen who was loved by those who knew him. He held no animosity or hatred towards any person or group and neither was he a political activist. It is hatred against the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Pakistan which has motivated this brutal murder.

“Recently, terrorist groups have also conducted fatal sectarian attacks against other religious groups in Pakistan. Hatred and persecution of any people must be condemned by all those who believe in peace and tolerance. Such attacks serve only to destabilise society and to spread discord.

“Despite the persecution, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community will only respond through prayer and law-abiding means."
