An international Muslim leader condemned terrorist group ISIS at a peace symposium attended by more than 1,000 people on Saturday.
His Holiness Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community spoke of the increased threat of radicalisation at the evening peace symposium in Morden's Baitul Futuh Mosque.
He said the actions of terrorist groups such as ISIS, Boko Haram and Al-Shabaab were completely against the teachings of Islam and quoted verses of the Holy Quran which refuted all forms of extremism.
Addressing political leaders at the event, including the Secretary of State for International Development Justine Greening MP, he warned that the root cause of today's conflicts was not religion, but an "unquenchable thirst for power, influence and resources".
Religion, Freedom and Peace, was the theme of this year's event, with guest speaker Professor Heiner Bielefeldt, UN special rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Prize for the Advancement of Peace was presented to Indian charity-worker Sindhutai Sapkal, who has helped to support more than 1,400 orphaned children in India by providing them with food, shelter and education.
