SEATTLE - Azam Akram did not sound like the stereotypical Muslim Imam Sunday night.
In a freewheeling discussion about ISIS, he evoked Kurt Cobain and Nirvana, pop culture, and went out of his way to criticize the sect which continues to grow in size across the Middle East.
Akram is a young leader in the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community and is based in Dayton, Ohio. He was in Seattle to serve as the keynote speaker at Town Hall about ISIS and its surge on the world stage. He was flanked by local ranking leaders of the FBI and U.S. Attorney's Office. He called ISIS members "nutcases", who have manipulated social media to recruit young people.
"Peace doesn't sell, harmony doesn't sell, but violence and gore and blood, it sells," said Akram.
"People ask, 'Where are the moderate Muslims?'" said Akram, "Here we are."
He says a large majority of Muslims believe in peace, like members of other religions. ISIS is "making a mockery of all that is holy and sacred" said Irfan Chaudhary, who is the President of the Seattle Chapter of the Ahmadiyaa Muslim Community.

But he is clear about what he thinks needs to be done in the Middle East.
"What should be done with ISIS in the Middle East?" says Akram, "It should be squashed like the bug it is."
