A minor girl and her mother were set on fire after being gang-raped by three men in Mio Mehar Goth, a small village in district Ghotki of Sindh Province.
The girl, who suffered 3rd degree burns over 90% of her body, died the following day in hospital, while the mother with 60% burns has survived, regaining consciousness from coma after 26 days, it was reported by the Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC).
Further, according to AHRC, "the police attempted to bury the incident of gang rape, burning, and murder, by refusing to lodge a criminal case against the perpetrators. Instead, AHRC reports, Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Iqbal Rajper, advised the minor girl's father to reach a settlement with the three perpetrators.
After the story of 12-year-old girl, Sheema Solangi and her mother, Allah Wadhai, 41, broke in the media – where the mother narrated the tragic story – and on the orders of the District and Sessions Court, a case of murder and rape has been filed in the local police station 30 days after the incident.
The police, however, continue to stall and have not attempted to arrested any of the accused, AHRC further reported.
