While Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, the alleged mastermind of Mumbai terrorist attacks, was released on bail from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi on Friday, earlier in the week, an Ahmadi publisher Tahir Mehdi Imtiaz Warraich, was sent to jail on Wednesday after a judicial magistrate dismissed his bail application in Lahore.
Warraich, the manager of daily Al-Fazl, a 102-year-old Ahmadiyya publication, is suspected of printing Islamic terminology and Quranic verses in his paper resulting in severe injuries to the sentiments of unsuspecting Muslims in the area.
According to a report published in The Express Tribune, Warraich was arrested by Millat Park police near an anti-terrorism court where he had secured his bail in connection with a different blasphemy case lodged two years ago.
"Warraich was on his way home after securing interim bail when he was arrested by police near the court following a tip-off by an anti-Ahmadiyya group active in the city," said the newspaper.
Warraich's latest arrest, the newspaper said, was made in connection with a blasphemy case registered a year ago under Sections 295-A and 298-C of the Pakistan Penal Code charging Warraich and his team with crimes of 'posing as a Muslim' and 'outraging the religious feelings' of Muslims.
Al-Fazl was originally founded as a weekly newspaper in 1913 and it was converted into a daily in 1935.
