RESIDENTS of the Braithwaite and Guard House area of Keighley enjoyed a free health check – thanks to a public health awareness day arranged by two organisations.

Keighley Community Through Unity and the town’s Ahmadiyya Muslim Association joined forces to stage the session at the Keith Thompson Centre.

Doctors, opticians and pharmacists from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association (AMA) volunteered their time to give advice. They offered one-to-one checks on blood pressure, lung function, lifestyle information and as well as explanations about other health matters.

There was also an exhibition displaying material on topics such as healthy eating, smoking, heart disease and the impact of drugs.

Co-host Paul Skinner, of Keighley Community Through Unity, said: “The volunteer medical professionals who staffed the event are a credit to our town. I hope we can expand on this in the near future so even more can benefit.”

Dr Adeem Rubani, of AMAhmadiyya Muslim Association, said: “ It was an honour to be able to volunteer our time for the community, and play a small part in towards creating a healthier society.”
